“ANY-TIME-ANY-SPRING”
LAYOUT DESIGN
OK, so maybe I didn’t actually sketch my first design by crayon
on a roof shingle . . . . More likely I used a magic marker on an old
(moldy) piece of cardboard from the basement trash . . . Nevertheless, I
needed some time to transcribe my proposed layout illustrations to a better venue.
Hence, there’s been some delay in posting these drawings. What I have decided to do is
depict each track on individual maps, because, to be truthful, when I
tried to put them all on one sheet, it looked like undecipherable
tangles of angel-hair spaghetti! (For
those who took notice of the “less than pristine” web of wires in
the “Hidden Yard” picture earlier, let me be perfectly honest by
saying that the “tangles of angel-hair spaghetti premise” is a
recurring theme not only on top of the table, but underneath, as well! .
. . )
I’m sorry, Mr. Kalmbach, but I forgot to buy “Basic Wiring
for Model Railroads” nine years ago.
I stand chagrined.
As it turned out, the original drawings that appeared on this
page have become obsolete, as I have currently completed the track work
for the third loop. To be completely candid,
toward the end of the summer I got REALLY REALLY REALLY tired of working
on scenery and decided that I had way-too-many engines and cars still
stored in boxes and I wanted them actually MOVING on tracks again.
So, one week, while my wife visited our son and daughter-in-law
in Scotland, I spent my daylight hours composing and the evenings
building the remainder of the needed tables and then . . . . I MADE
TRACK! There is always the chance
that even these plans will change somewhat as I continue with the
scenery, but at least these illustrations will give the viewer some
perspective on where each of the scenic elements is or will be located
in the “big picture”!
